The problem was solved when I did a search on Hobbes with AD1885 and found the seeries of SOUNDMAX drivers. They are from Analog Devices for their chipsets and there are a number of versions. The latest version worked after a bit of tinkering and it unstalled the IBM mixer...It all works now.
