Dell Inspiron E1705 (Core 2 Duo)
Mark: Average Wow! I got it all working
on my Dell E1705 Duo laptop. Wifi works! Acpi works. SMP works. SNAP
works. even USB works.
Universal Sound driver works fine with the Intel sound chip.
Boy, am I jazzed! I should dance around the place.
This is eCS 2.0 RC3, of course.
How to resize NTFS volume?
You will need to be VERY determined if you want to do it. I used
Partition Magic to shrink NTFS (part 2) to 20GB. You will also need
to make a "Dell System Recovery Fix boot cd" if you want to keep all
the Dell system restore stuff. I found an cd image using Google
search. SNAP supports up to 1600x1200, which is good enough for me.
And finally, when you boot the eCS install cd, you will get 2 "sys"
errors after the diskette images are loaded. Open the cd drive,
press ctrl-alt-del. The logo screen will show up. Quickly close the
cd door again. At the end of phase one, you will need to edit
config.sys and take "/FS /SMP /PIC" off of the aspi.psd line. And
the cd door needs to be open each time eCS boots. I setup partition 3
as the boot eCS partition.
See - nothing to it! Boot the Dell Recovery Fix cd when you want to
put things back to XP land. If you don't want to keep all the Dell
Restore partitions, you have more options. Like installing Boot
Manager in a new partition one and using it to boot both.

DevCon: Every system utility should be multilanguage. Every application should be multilanguage. We recommend to use LANGE library.
